Why is it important to monitor your heart rate when you work out? What is a good heart rate?

To burn fat your heart rate should be 70-75% of maximum. The easiest way to find your max HR is to subtract your age from 220. When your HR goes above 70% you burn more carbs than fat. Some serious distance runners use their HR to determine how fast to run.
